”Our devotion is written in every thread, every clasp, every shade of shadow we wear. Let your garb whisper of reverence, conceal forbidden truths, and proclaim the divine light of our Founders.”
Costume guide
Sins of our Creators is played in a modern day setting. However due to the nature of the cult it is possible your character has been alive for longer than humanly acceptable. Although your beloved leaders provide everyone with luxury, you have agency over what you choose to wear.
That being said, we would like for this cult to exude decadence. Sweatpants and ripped jeans are not a good look in the beautiful world the Founders have shaped to their taste.
The base colours for outfits are black, red and white. Your accessories correspond with the status you hold within the cult, and extra colours are added depending on which Founder you fall under.
There will be rituals and ceremonies for which you can change the color scheme. Notably this will be the moment to wear white and you can wear as much as you want. You can go for a full white outfit or wear just a white cape/cloak or jacket over your regular outfit. If you have white in your regular outfit (a white shirt ie.) then add a second piece of white for the rituals. The idea is to create a stark contrast to the dark moody colors of everyday life.
We will have a couple white capes available to borrow but they are a limited supply.

Accessories
Everyone will wear an accessory to match their status within the cult. You can find which material is relevant to you below. The Founders are linked to a specific gemstone, and only the Founders may wear the actual stone as an accessory. Members just wear a color representation to show off which bloodline they belong to. This representation can be big or small, simple or extravagant. You can even opt to not wear any colors because maybe your character is unhappy with their bloodline or for other completely (un)reasonable reasons.
Besides the specific Founder gemstones you are free to wear jewelry with other colors like rubies, onyx and pearls for example. Just be mindful of the material, as silver and gold have their own place in this game.
Don’t underestimate the power of make-up, nail polish, shoes or hair either when it comes to accessorizing!
NB. For our Founder players: you can dress however you like. In reds and blacks, in full display of the color of your gemstone. A mix of all. Your distinction will be the actual gemstone. You can incorporate this yourself in any way you like in accessories but we will also have a brooch with the gemstone available.
Founder colors:
- The True Believer – Sapphire blue
- The Disillusioned Fraud – Amethyst Purple
- The idealist Shepherd – Emerald Green
- The Dream Weaver – Amber/Citrine Yellow
Status Colors
- The Chosen – Gold
- The Embraced (vampires) – Silver
- The Bound (ghouls) – Leather
- The Tarnished (human) – No jewelry
The Tarnished
If you are playing a Tarnished you need two costumes. One for your night of arrival which is whatever you were wearing the moment you got taken.
And you need an outfit which follows the rules of the cult. Decadent, tidy, red/black/white. Unfortunately no jewelry for you (yet)
Can I wear ………
Everyone is free to wear the colours red, black, white, and clear. We specifically include clear here, as it also applies to gemstones. This means rubies, onyx, pearls, and diamonds are all fair game in your costume. The Family Tree’s final page has rubies on it, but we want to reiterate that rubies are not restricted to anyone in particular.
So, where do we draw the line with the exclusive Founder colours? As a general rule: if an item looks like a statement, it probably is. Want to incorporate your Founder colour in other ways then i.e. through clothing? You’re safe using materials like beads (glass, stone, etc.), metals, or even scales, especially when used in jewellery or small accents.
What kind of material can be used in my costume
The main rule when it comes to costume and status: the elements you choose to highlight are what matter most.
For example: if you’re playing a Bound and your status prohibits you from wearing silver or gold, but your pants, dress or jacket happen to have a silver zipper, don’t worry about it. The same goes for your usual gold stud earrings or a wedding ring. You’re absolutely allowed to keep wearing those.
The important distinction is intentional display. If silver or gold elements are worn in a way that draws attention, i.e. a jacket covered in ten shiny golden zippers, then it becomes a clear status statement. In that case, the costume will reflect your character’s standing in the world.
Can characters be gifted jewelry or clothes?
It’s possible that someone from another rank, or even a different Founder than your bloodline, has gifted your character an item. When building relationships, feel free to discuss amongst yourselves if something like this could have happened in the past.
It might also be something that happens in character during the event!
We have created a Pinterest for you to get a feel of the style of clothing. The main board is focused on the base colors and accessories, and there are sub boards for every level of hierarchy, one for inspiration on incorporating the color of the Founders and one for ritual wear. These all are ideas and guidelines. Also look at all the boards, don’t feel limited by just your own hierarchy, maybe you find something you love in one of the others and all you have to do is change a color!

….. and finally
We realize this is quite an extensive costume guide, but don’t feel pressured into wearing something you might not feel comfortable in. Everyone has their own capabilities when it comes to dressing up, and you do not have to go for a three piece suit or a dress. We simply ask to keep our color guidelines in mind when planning your outfit. Aside from the aforementioned white capes you can borrow (supply limited), we will also have a collection of different jewelry available to wear.
